I can never understand what is wrong with the Americans and their obsession with acronyms. My first encounter with them was years ago, in an inter-company board meeting. Dressed casual as previously instructed, we were sitting around a big U-shaped table. At the open edge of the table was a screen on which various slides about development, financials and various stuff would be shown.
The gentleman, well, supposedly higher ranking than the rest of us took the microphone and a parade of acronyms began. One after the other, non-stop, a myriad of acronyms were being shot at us, without showing any sign of mercy or regret: kpi, pnl, bs, pso, tsr, roi, abc, def.. The list was long. Do not get me wrong. I knew what he was talking about, that bs stood for balance sheet, not bullshit for example, but the scene was so surreal that it was like we were orbiting the Earth in a shuttle, and all those acronyms were floating in the cabin at zero gravity. At one point, I almost opened my mouth to catch and swallow one (Now you know what goes on inside those board meetings; making thousands per hour while you are sweating for a few bucks is not so easy). I poured myself a cup of coffee, instead.

According to Global Voices Online, I happened to learn that a Turkish soap opera, Nur (or Noor, your preference, the former spelling is Turkish, the latter for you to correctly pronounce it), has become a hit in the Arab world, with reports of fights and even divorces occurring because of the obsession of many women with the handsome male star, Kivanç Tatlitug, who plays Muhannad (I did not know such a name existed, by the way). The series it seems, not only caused quite a stir in the Arab speaking blogosphere, but also among all-knowing-always-talking religious clerics.
I am pleased, really. No, not for the supposedly increasing divorce rates but for those who cunningly mask their desire to dominate the female of the species behind religion. They must be in shock. Women… like… men? (I will regret this phrase and the title of this post which will force Google and the company push wild and interesting ads -sigh-) What a novel idea!

“Failing to see important women in history, a girl learns how insignificant she is.” I can not remember the exact quotation but it was along these lines, nor who said it. So, in places where it is practically not possible to keep the women illiterate any more, controlling what they will be taught is of paramount importance. From various cults to religious sects, from filthy sheiks to the greatest self acclaimed thinkers of the past century, everybody pokes a finger in education.
Almost every paragraph, figure, picture, story gives this subliminal message: “You have to be submissive and obedient.” And despite I like good ol’ Rimsky’s (Rimsky-Korsakov for the masses) music, variations of Scheherazade’s tale complete the picture. God’s will is enforced.

As I expected, I received another e-mail in flames (not a comment in the blog as I hoped for) complaining why I was so negative to the women who walked in wedding dresses to protest Pippa’s murder. Well, I was not negative, first of all, towards them. Their actions? Maybe. Their alliances? Yes. Their political choices? Definitely. Rest of the readers (non local ones) may now hope for an explanation, but they will not get it, not the full version, anyway. Not today. Let me clarify:
First off, this blog’s sole purpose is to present the facts as I see it (this, however unfortunate, is naturally subjective). I, usually have a very good theory as to why but this theory will rarely be made public. I do not want you to prove or disprove it. There are plenty who do that and end up with wrong conclusions (another subjective point, read Days of Disinformation again, if necessary). I do not want you to understand, rather, I want you to feel it and form a theory of your own so that I can adjust and modify mine. Being always right is not statistically possible, so my theories will have to corrected before I drown in my river of Narcissism. Hence a lot of implications and points are made but they are rarely connected.

Sometimes it is really getting difficult to hold on to reality. I wonder if I’m the only one to take notice of this masquerade. If it was not for Fravia’s [fravia.com] and +ORC’s (no link available, but once upon a time some claimed to have found the mysterious +ORC site) [aone.net.au] past lessons, I would probably go and see a psychiatrist. Maybe I still should.
You must have heard Pippa Bacca’s story that ended tragically in Gebze, Turkey. She was a good soul who decided to tour the world on foot, to draw attention to peace and humanity’s intrinsic good qualities. She decided to hike all the way up to Israel in a wedding dress.
Not being a big fan of TV or mainstream newspapers I only became aware of the event when it showed up in my rss feed. Intrigued by the sad story, I decided to read everything that was written in the Turkish media before her arrival and after her death. It was then when my sorrow first turned to anger, then to resentment; I wish I had read the news before her murder.
