According to Global Voices Online, I happened to learn that a Turkish soap opera, Nur (or Noor, your preference, the former spelling is Turkish, the latter for you to correctly pronounce it), has become a hit in the Arab world, with reports of fights and even divorces occurring because of the obsession of many women with the handsome male star, Kivanç Tatlitug, who plays Muhannad (I did not know such a name existed, by the way). The series it seems, not only caused quite a stir in the Arab speaking blogosphere, but also among all-knowing-always-talking religious clerics.
I am pleased, really. No, not for the supposedly increasing divorce rates but for those who cunningly mask their desire to dominate the female of the species behind religion. They must be in shock. Women… like… men? (I will regret this phrase and the title of this post which will force Google and the company push wild and interesting ads -sigh-) What a novel idea!

As I expected, I received another e-mail in flames (not a comment in the blog as I hoped for) complaining why I was so negative to the women who walked in wedding dresses to protest Pippa’s murder. Well, I was not negative, first of all, towards them. Their actions? Maybe. Their alliances? Yes. Their political choices? Definitely. Rest of the readers (non local ones) may now hope for an explanation, but they will not get it, not the full version, anyway. Not today. Let me clarify:
First off, this blog’s sole purpose is to present the facts as I see it (this, however unfortunate, is naturally subjective). I, usually have a very good theory as to why but this theory will rarely be made public. I do not want you to prove or disprove it. There are plenty who do that and end up with wrong conclusions (another subjective point, read Days of Disinformation again, if necessary). I do not want you to understand, rather, I want you to feel it and form a theory of your own so that I can adjust and modify mine. Being always right is not statistically possible, so my theories will have to corrected before I drown in my river of Narcissism. Hence a lot of implications and points are made but they are rarely connected.

Possibly the sole organisation for people who have different (with respect to our very normal society) sexual preferences like gays, lesbians etc, has been shutdown by the court on the grounds of:
- protection of the family as an institution
- violation of Civil Code stating no immoral organisation can be founded
- failure to mention the meaning of “lambda” in Turkish in the official name of the organisation.
Honestly, I do not know what to say but “gloomy days ahead!” or something similar, but since we started, let us analyse our exponentially improving democracy in Turkey a little bit in the light of this court decision.
