I hardly use public transport in Istanbul. Well, that may sound snobbish but what I actually mean is I’m usually on foot or on a bike. If I have to go anywhere in the city, I take great care so that my destination is accessible by ferry, subway or light rail. If I can not reach them using the above, I avoid such places; and this you might call snobbish.

good old ferry sailing in bosphorus

It is a great pleasure to watch the birds, the constant hikers of the trains and ferries; the living proof of Darwin’s theory of evolution. I invite anyone opposing the theory to Istanbul, to take a ride with me.

I spot them all the time, especially on the ferries, upper deck front, my favorite place where smoking was once allowed, arriving a few minutes prior to departure, finding a convenient place to enjoy the ride and avoiding unnecessary chat with people. Instead of crossing the Bosphorus by solely relying on their wings, they too evolved, got lazier I should think, and use the ferry services all around the year. If they get on it at the Asian side, they usually leave the vessel when it is closest to Topkapi Palace. I’m willing to bet after fifty years or so, they will not be able to fly any more, especially the crows.

My humble contribution to the scientific community.
