two women hand in hand

Possibly the sole organisation for people who have different (with respect to our very normal society) sexual preferences like gays, lesbians etc, has been shutdown by the court on the grounds of:

  • protection of the family as an institution
  • violation of Civil Code stating no immoral organisation can be founded
  • failure to mention the meaning of “lambda” in Turkish in the official name of the organisation.

Honestly, I do not know what to say but “gloomy days ahead!” or something similar, but since we started, let us analyse our exponentially improving democracy in Turkey a little bit in the light of this court decision.

What is a family?

Definitions vary but one thing is for certain: it has to refer to a particular role model. So, while sociologists are discussing what a family is, our beloved government has fixed it once and for all. A family is made up of:

* A male, at least ten years older than the wife, works, makes money etc, the decision maker, preferably grows a moustache.
* A female, minimum education, has to marry latest at the age of 17 (ideally 15), submissive, doing womanly things like cleaning, cooking etc, with a particular dressing code.
* Children, minimum three; education in a language (preferably two) other than their native tongue is a must.

Well, it is really difficult for Lambda or its members to fit to this role model. So, for the greater good of society, so and so forth, closure is not very surprising. Now I can almost hear those in the acquired perception group saying “We shall go this and that court, ask for another hearing, appeal,” whatever. My answer is simple:

What difference would it make? Where do you think, say a lesbian would fit in a society like this? Could she get a job? Could she adopt children? Could she easily run her own business?

What is immoral?

Simple really. Anything or anyone that does not fit into the picture above is immoral. Is it negotiable? Of course, not. The orders are issued from high above, way high. So, STFU!

The Turkish equivalent of Lambda

This is the only bit that I wholeheartedly agree with the court. What the f*ck is a lambda, anyway?
